Foods to avoid

  • Spicy foods
  • Caffeine
  • Junk food
  • Alcohol
  • Cigarettes

Foods such as spicy foods, caffeine, junk food, cigarettes and alcohol can trigger sweaty hands and need to be avoided as much as possible. Spicy foods, for example, contain Capsaicin, this is a stimulant that tricks your nervous system into thinking you are hot, a signal is then sent to the hypothalamus which activates the sweat glands.

Caffeine is another trigger and works in a similar way of stimulating the brain and nervous system. When over-stimulation occurs effects such as anxiety, restlessness and sweaty hands and feet occur too. If you consume caffeine on a daily basis, then try cutting it down to a few times a week and notice whether it has an effect on your sweaty hands.

Other foods such as junk foods causes havoc on the proper functioning of the body, many illnesses are caused by dietary intake. The reason junk food causes illnesses is that, junk food causes toxins to build up in the body. It has been noted that as little as half a degree drop in body temperature can prevent sweating. Water also flushes out the toxins from your body. By eliminating toxins your body has a better chance at balancing itself.

  • Drink at least 2 litres of water a day
  • Regulate water intake to 1 glass of water an hour
  • Drink still water and not sparkling nor flavoured water
  • If possible, purchase a water filter to filter impurities from the water

Washing Hands

2. Wash your hands more often

By washing your hands on a regular basis, not only does one prevent the spread of bacteria, which prefer moist and warm places to grow but you also dry out the hands. Using an astringent soap such as an antibacterial soap will also dry out the hands. One caution is not to choose a soap that is too astringent, otherwise you risk drying out the skin on the back of your hands.

  • Wash hands on a regular basis throughout the day.
  • When you are not washing after using the toilet or before and after dinner you do not need to use soap. Just use plain water during the day as not to dry skin.

An alkaline substance such as powder helps evaporate moisture. After washing your hands place talcum powder or bicarbonate of soda powder on your hands. This will absorb the moisture coming from your pores. Bicarbonate of soda is also an antibacterial, which will eliminate germs from your hands. You do not need to use a lot of powder on your hands in order for it to be effective.

  • Sprinkle powder in the palm of your hands and then rub through.
  • Make sure to spread the powder between your fingers as much perspiration also happens between the fingers.
  • Place a thin layer of powder on the hands after each hand wash to prevent perspiration
  • Carry a small bottle of talcum powder with you.

anti perspirants

4. Use antiperspirant

The use of powder to absorb moisture if one way, how to get rid of sweaty hands but not the only one. For those who do not enjoy the feel or look of powder on their hands, the use of antiperspirant could be the other option for a topical treatment.

An antiperspirant that is used to keep your underarms dry can work just as effectively as on your hands. The same principle works for both your armpits and your hands. Roll on antiperspirant is the best choice due to its compact container and ease of application. When buying a deodorant be sure that it is an antiperspirant. Some deodorants do not contain the aluminium compound that helps control profuse perspiration, it does this by blocking sweat pores. It is the aluminium compound that makes an antiperspirant different from a simple deodorizer.

  • As before, wash your hands and then towel dry. Make sure to dry the hands properly, in between the fingers and over the palms.
  • Take the antiperspirant stick and roll it over the center of the palms, apply enough for both hands. Rub your two palms together and spread the antiperspirant over your hands and in between your fingers. Keep your palms open and fingers spread for excess deodorant to dry. You need only hold it for a few seconds.

In severe cases you may also get a prescription for antiperspirants with higher doses of aluminium in them. It is also important that you ask your dermatologist or chemist for how long one can use high dosages of aluminium. It is always best to consult with a medical person before taking medical prescriptions, as there could be another product on the market more suited. It need not be in a deodorant form, there could be a tablet or such, but it all depends on the severity of your case.

Nervous Sweating occurs in different forms for different people, some have excessive sweating in their foreheads, some in their palms and some in their armpits. Because of this excessive sweating, they fear that people will misunderstand them as looking uncomfortable and unstable and as a result emotionally affect them.

Nervous sweating in medical terms is known as Hyperhidrosis and can be categorized as either Primary Hyperhidrosis or Secondary Hyperhidrosis. Primary Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating without any known causes whereas secondary Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that is caused by some certain causes like in a social gathering or in a public speaking.

How to reduce nervous sweating?

You cannot control your sweating, as sweating is caused when your body is over heated. But there are definitely ways to control yourself and your nerves so that the heat in the body is reduced which will obviously reduce the excessive sweating.

Let’s look into some of the ways and means to reduce or stop nervous sweating:

  • Regular Exercise and Jogging

Maintaining a regular exercise routine that includes jogging is one of the best ways to reduce your anxiety. Regular morning jogs help releases endorphins in your body, which takes care of cooling and calms your nerves and thus makes you less prone to nervous sweating. But jogging should be done only in the morning or evening and not before you are attending a meeting or any function which will make you nervous, as jogging also causes sweat. So it’s advised to jog and do exercise in the morning and make sure your body is cooled down and relaxed.

  • Maintain your weight

Healthy FoodsIf you maintain a regular body weight, you are less prone to sweating, as people with excessive body weight have a body temperature higher than people with a healthy weight, the reason being that overweight people have more excess fat and because of that excess fat content, their body temperature is also higher and thus they are more nervous.

  • Maintaining a Good Sleeping Routine

People who sleep less are also prone to excessive body temperature which in turn creates body heat and this produces excess sweat in nervous situations. So always maintain a regular sleeping routine of 6-7 hours a day for adults. A good sleep can play an important role in keeping your body relaxed and calm.

  • Breathing Techniques

Pretend that you are caught in a situation and you are sweating profusely because of nervousness and anxiety, what many doctors will you do is to leave the place and go to a quiet, lonely place, take a deep breath and sit in a chair in a relaxed position. Afterwards gently take a deep breath through your nose and try to hold on to it for 3-4 seconds. And then gently exhale or breathe out through your mouth slowly. Now repeat this for 8-10 times. This deep breathing technique instantly calms you down and reduces your body temperature and sweating.

  • Be Relaxed

In situations where you are nervous or in an anxious situation, people do a lot of things to hide their anxiety like putting their hands in their pant pockets or shaking their legs and so on. Because of this, the body generates more heat causing you to sweat even more. So when you are caught in a situation, always make sure to keep your hands free so that the sweat in your hands become dry in the air.

  • Wear Proper Clothes

If you know beforehand that you are going to attend an event or meeting which will make you nervous, all you need to do is prepare yourself for the worst. You cannot reduce the sweat in your body but you can take only other measures to show that you are not nervous. One of the ways to avoid excess sweating is to wear clothing that is not too warm on your body, as warm clothes generate more heat. So dress yourself in clothing that gets more air to your body like shorts, dresses, sport shirts.

Learn How To Get Rid Of Hyperhidrosis

Plenty of people suffer from excessive sweating. The disease – also known as hyperhidrosis – is extremely unpleasant, but it has a series of remedies as well. A healthy diet is among them.

Not sure how to get rid of hyperhidrosis? Everything begins with your diet. You are what you eat. Eat hot foods and you will feel hot. The consequence is obvious – excessive sweat. Caffeine carries similar properties. You might love the taste of a burrito mixed with the hottest sauce in the world, but this kind of meal will work on your sweating glands in a negative manner. Hot spices activate your brain neurotransmitters. The same goes for caffeine. Anything that works on these brain chemicals will also affect the glands.

Diet

When it comes to your lifestyle, do not hesitate to use antiperspirant in the afternoon and even before going to sleep. Most people use antiperspirants in the morning or before going out. However, the sweat production is minimum overnight. Therefore, antiperspirant ingredients are more successful in penetrating pores and blocking sweat during the next day. Sure, there is nothing wrong with applying it in the morning either, but never skip the night application. Worried that the product might wash away while showering? Keep calm – ingredients are already in the pores.

Learning how to get rid of hyperhidrosis is also a matter of education. Most people associate perspiration with the armpits. Sure, those areas do not “breathe” too much, so they are quite exposed to excessive sweat. But then, you should know that the average individual has around three million glands to cool the body. Therefore, there are sweat glands in your face, back, chest, groin, feet, hands and other parts of the body too. Sure, you should not use antiperspirant on private areas and the face because they are sensitive. But then, feel free to spray some of it on other parts.

Iontophoresis is a medical way to learn how to get rid of hyperhidrosis. It is hard to tell how this treatment works because no one can tell precisely. However, according to the beneficial results, specialists believe that it blocks sweat from penetrating the skin surface. The treatment implies wasting about half an hour with both your hands and feet in a tray of water. A low electrical current goes through the water. Improvements are noticed after a few weeks. You need a few treatments every week. With time, you will only need two or three sessions a month for maintenance. There are also iontophoresis machines for home uses.

When learning how to get rid of hyperhidrosis, some specialists will also recommend the classic botox – botulinum toxin. This toxin is better known for its effects against wrinkles. However, it is medically approved to treat excessive sweat as well. The way this toxin works is fairly simple to understand – it prevents the release of specific chemicals, which trigger the sweat glands. A few injections will provide long lasting results of up to a year.

Anticholinergic medications represent yet another medical way to lose the excessive sweat. They are recommended when antiperspirants, natural ideas and other medical treatments fail to work. Such drugs are taken orally. Their main goal is to prevent the activation of sweating glands. Just like any other medication, they might have secondary reactions. This is why seeing a specialist doctor is a good idea. Remember that blocking perspiration will stimulate the necessity to eliminate excessive water in other ways, so you will urinate more.

If you are up for more natural solutions, a few lifestyle changes can work wonders in the long run. Make sure you never wear heavy clothes, especially during the hot summertime. They trap the sweat inside. Instead, stick to light and breathable materials. Silk and cotton are excellent. If you know that you will exercise or work in warm weather, you might want to bring an extra shirt as well. Learning how to get rid of hyperhidrosis also implies relying on simple techniques, such as having shoe inserts and underarm liners to absorb sweat and prevent staining your clothes.
